Tiny Muntjac deer born at Burger’s Zoo!

The Dutch zoo Burger’s Zoo has been busy lately! On top of the tiny ringed seal pup that was born a few weeks ago, it has been reported that a baby Muntjac deer (Muntjak) was born as well. Could this be the official beginning of Spring?

Muntjacs are the only deer that have tusks that can grow so long that they grow outside of the mouth and they make long-sounding barks!

Muntjac deer are the oldest deer known, appearing over 15 million years ago, with remains found in Miocene deposits throughout Europe. Among the Muntjac (Muntiacus) there are 12 different species. A wild exotic Muntiacus reevesi was spotted for the first time in the Netherlands in 2010.
